Today’s Grocery Store Discoveries

I went to Brighter Day and Kroger today to do a little searching for local produce. This is what I found.

 Brighter Day:
Local Spinach
Kohl Rabi
Pac Choi
Baby lettuce
Satsuma Tangerines

Kroger:
Blackberries from Florida
Broccoli from GA
Chicken from Springer Mountain, GA
Oranges from FLA
Tangerines from FLA
Veggie Cheese from Orlando, FLA
Lee Pork Sausage from Alma, GA
Roger Wood hot sausage from Savannah, GA
Sausage from Alparetta, GA
Corn Meal from GA

The worst part about the grocery store today was seeing red peppers from Israel, clementines from Spain and lots of fruit from South America, knowing that it could all be grown here or not bothered with at all.

Tomorrow I’m going to Polk’s Market with the hopes that there will be a larger selection o local nosh. This is the plan:

Scope out the prospects of locally produced food and if it seems doable, spend the next 9 weeks eating only local food and produce. That means no eating out unless it’s local food. No bread unless it’s baked here, no ice cream, coffee, wine and no pasta (but that’s going to work out thanks to the pasta maker Ryan gave me!)
